preCharge News U.S. — Authorities searched through rubble across southern Michigan on Saturday after powerful storms produced multiple tornadoes that killed at least six people across Michigan and Oklahoma.

The storms destroyed homes, ripped roofs off buildings and scattered debris across neighborhoods, leaving power lines tangled with wreckage and trees.

Emergency crews from several agencies continued rescue and recovery operations as residents assessed widespread damage.

Multiple Tornadoes Confirmed in Southern Michigan

EF-3 Tornado Devastates Union City

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service confirmed that several tornadoes struck southern Michigan.

Damage surveys identified:

• EF-3 tornado in Union City, Michigan
• EF-2 tornado near Three Rivers, Michigan
• EF-0 tornado in Clarendon Township, Michigan

The Enhanced Fujita Scale ranks tornado intensity from EF-0 to EF-5 based on damage severity.

Meteorologist Lonnie Fisher said damage surveys were continuing.

“Most likely there were three distinct tornadoes, but we won’t know 100% for sure until they finish the survey,” Fisher said.

Michigan Communities Hit Hard

Fatalities and Injuries Reported

Authorities reported multiple deaths and injuries in areas heavily damaged by the storms.

In Branch County, Michigan, near Union Lake, officials confirmed three deaths and about a dozen injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

First responders searched damaged neighborhoods while working to clear blocked roads.

Images shared online showed flattened houses and downed trees throughout lakeside communities.

About 50 miles away in Cass County, Michigan, a 12-year-old boy identified as Silas Anderson died after being injured during a suspected tornado.

Sheriff Clint Roach said the boy’s parents found him injured and provided first aid before he later died at a hospital.

Emergency manager Manny DeLaRosa said several large structures—including homes and pole barns—sustained major structural damage or were completely destroyed.

Storm Conditions Created Rare Tornado Setup

Weather System Pulled Moisture From Gulf

Meteorologists said the storms intensified rapidly after forming in Indiana and moving into southern Michigan.

According to David Roth at the Weather Prediction Center, the weather system drew moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and combined with a warm front moving north.

The system then collided with colder air over the Great Lakes, creating conditions favorable for tornado development.

Michigan averages about 15 tornadoes per year, far fewer than states such as Texas and Kansas.

State Officials Launch Emergency Response

Michigan Activates Emergency Operations Center

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer activated the state’s emergency response systems to coordinate disaster relief.

“The state’s Emergency Operations Center has been activated to coordinate an all-hands-on-deck response,” Whitmer said.

Authorities also warned residents about potential power outages, road closures and communication disruptions as crews worked to restore services.

Oklahoma Tornadoes Leave Additional Fatalities

Two Killed in Beggs Storm

Severe storms also hit Oklahoma, where a tornado killed two people in Beggs, Oklahoma, roughly 30 miles south of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Officials from the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office said the victims were inside a home struck by the storm. Two additional people were hospitalized.

Emergency manager Jeff Moore said the tornado carved a four-mile path of destruction across the county.

Large trees were uprooted and widespread power outages were reported.

“We’re just getting everywhere as fast as we can, clearing roads as fast as we can,” Moore said.

Additional Storm Deaths Under Investigation

Possible Tornado-Related Crash

In Fairview, Oklahoma, authorities found a 47-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter dead in a vehicle after storms struck the region.

A spokesperson for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the crash “appears to be tornado related.”

Governor Kevin Stitt expressed condolences in a public statement.

“Severe weather struck Major County last night and tragically claimed the lives of a mother and daughter,” Stitt said.
