preCharge News POLITICS — President Donald Trump said Friday he directed United States Central Command to carry out a major bombing raid against military targets on Kharg Island, describing the attack as one of the most powerful strikes in the region’s history.

“Moments ago, at my direction, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He said the operation “totally obliterated every military target” on the island but deliberately spared its oil infrastructure.

Trump Orders Massive U.S. Bombing Raid on Iran’s Kharg Island, Hitting 90 Military Targets

U.S. Military Says More Than 90 Targets Destroyed

CENTCOM Releases Strike Footage

Early Saturday, United States Central Command released video footage showing strikes on Iranian military facilities.

According to CENTCOM, U.S. forces successfully hit:

  • Naval mine storage facilities
  • Missile storage bunkers
  • Additional military sites

Officials said more than 90 Iranian military targets were destroyed during the operation.

The command added that the strikes avoided damaging oil export infrastructure, which is critical to global energy markets.

Trump Warns Iran Over Strait of Hormuz Shipping

President Signals Possible Escalation

Trump warned that his decision to avoid damaging oil infrastructure could change if Iran interferes with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Should Iran, or anyone else, do anything to interfere with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision,” Trump wrote.

The waterway handles roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil shipments, making it a key strategic chokepoint.

The president also urged major economies including China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom to send warships to protect shipping routes.

Kharg Island: Iran’s Critical Oil Export Hub

Strategic Energy Asset at Center of Conflict

Kharg Island is widely considered Iran’s most important oil export facility.

The five-mile-long coral island lies roughly 15 miles off Iran’s mainland in the northern Persian Gulf.

Energy analysts say the terminal accounts for about 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports and has the capacity to load roughly 7 million barrels per day.

Because of its strategic importance, the island has largely remained untouched during nearly two weeks of U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran.

U.S. Weighs Risks of Escalation

Analysts Warn Against Seizing Kharg Island

Experts say capturing or destroying the facility would carry major geopolitical and economic risks.

Reports from Axios earlier suggested the Trump administration had discussed the possibility of seizing the island.

However, analysts note that doing so would likely require a large-scale ground operation, something U.S. officials appear reluctant to undertake.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has previously said the United States will not become bogged down in long-term military occupations.

Oil Prices Surge Amid Escalating War

Brent Crude Tops $100 Per Barrel

Global energy markets have reacted sharply to the conflict.

On Friday, Brent crude closed above $100 per barrel for the second consecutive day, with prices rising more than 40% since the war began.

Analysts warn that any disruption to Iranian oil exports or shipping routes through the Persian Gulf could push prices even higher.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has said the administration expects energy prices to fall once Operation Epic Fury ends.
