preCharge News BUSINESS — The Trump Organization has quietly removed a claim that its newly announced smartphone, the T1, would be manufactured in the United States — raising fresh skepticism about whether the $499 device could feasibly be produced on American soil.

A spokesperson still insisted that the handset would be made in the U.S., despite widespread industry doubt.

Website Banner Removed Amid Scrutiny

When the gold-colored T1 smartphone was unveiled earlier this month, a banner on the Trump Mobile website proudly declared:

“Our MADE IN THE USA ‘T1 Phone’ is available for pre-order now.”

That claim has since been removed entirely, first noticed by independent outlet preCharge News.

The product page now refers to the phone as having an “American-Proud Design” and says it is “brought to life right here in the USA” — a phrase that leaves room for interpretation about its actual place of manufacture.

Industry Experts Cast Doubt on U.S. Assembly

Manufacturing Capability in U.S. Lacking

Experts told preCharge News that the T1 is most likely being produced in China by a third-party manufacturer, as the U.S. lacks the necessary smartphone supply chain infrastructure. Even if final assembly occurred domestically, core components would still need to be imported.

Trump Spokesperson Insists Phone Is U.S.-Made

Despite growing doubts, Trump Mobile spokesperson Chris Walker issued a statement to USA Today reaffirming the original claim:

“T1 phones are proudly being made in America. Speculation to the contrary is simply inaccurate.”

Key Phone Specs Quietly Downgraded

Display Size and RAM Modified

The Trump Mobile website has also made unannounced changes to key hardware specifications of the T1:

  • Original display: 6.8-inch AMOLED
  • Updated display: 6.25-inch AMOLED
  • Original RAM: 12GB
  • Updated listing: No mention of RAM capacity

Such post-announcement spec changes are rare in the smartphone industry, especially before shipping has even begun.

No Comment Yet from Trump Organization

Trump Pushes for U.S. Tech Reshoring

White House Targeting Smartphone Supply Chains

President Trump has made reshoring technology manufacturing a major policy plank. While his administration initially focused on semiconductor fabrication, attention has since turned to smartphones.

Trump has also publicly criticized Apple’s reliance on overseas production, urging the company to bring iPhone manufacturing back to the U.S. — part of a broader push to secure critical technology supply chains.
