preCharge News POLITICS — U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran on Wednesday that a “massive armada” was heading toward it and that the country should “make a deal” with the United States on its contested nuclear program or face a large-scale U.S. military attack.
U.S. President Signals Military Pressure Amid Nuclear Negotiations
“A massive Armada is heading to Iran. It is moving quickly, with great power, enthusiasm, and purpose,” Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, saying the naval force — including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln — was larger than the fleet previously sent toward Venezuela.
“Like with Venezuela, it is ready, willing and able to rapidly fulfill its mission, with speed and violence, if necessary,” Trump added.
Trump stressed that he hoped Tehran would come to the table to negotiate “a fair and equitable deal” regarding its nuclear weapons program. “Time is running out,” he wrote.
“Make a Deal” or “Far Worse” Warning Cited
Trump referenced “Operation Midnight Hammer,” the U.S.-led June 2025 operation that destroyed several Iranian nuclear facilities, and warned that a future strike would be “far worse” if Iran again refuses to negotiate.
Iran’s Reaction and Diplomatic Stance
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said he had not been in contact with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff in recent days and did not request negotiations, according to Iranian state media reports.
Following Trump’s warning, Iran’s mission to the United Nations stated that Iran is ready for dialogue based on mutual respect and interests, but warned that if pushed militarily it will defend itself.
U.S. Sanctions and Nuclear Deal History
The U.S. has applied a range of sanctions targeting Iran’s oil trade and maintained threats and military positioning to push Tehran toward halting its nuclear program. Trump withdrew the U.S. from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018, calling it “decaying and rotten,” and later sought a renewed deal under a “maximum pressure” policy, though talks have stalled.
Human Rights and Domestic Unrest Context
Tensions also followed a violent crackdown on protests in Iran tied to economic hardship and authoritarian policies. Human rights groups report thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of arrests during the unrest.
Trump had earlier tied potential U.S. military action to Iran’s treatment of protesters and escalated warnings over its nuclear ambitions.
