Trump Says Iran War ‘Pretty Much Complete’ After Call With Putin

preCharge News POLITICS — Donald Trump on Tuesday extended the two-week U.S. ceasefire with Iran, saying the move was warranted due to Tehran’s government being “seriously fractured.”

Trump said the ceasefire, which he had earlier indicated would end on Wednesday, would now continue “until such time as” Iran’s leaders and representatives submit a “unified proposal” to end the war with the United States and Israel.

Pakistan-Mediated Talks Collapse as Iran Pulls Back

Trump’s announcement followed reports that a planned trip by JD Vance to Pakistan for a second round of peace negotiations had been put on hold.

Iranian state media outlet Tasnim reported that Tehran’s negotiators informed U.S. counterparts through intermediaries in Pakistan that they would not attend further talks.

“Iran ultimately announced today that under these circumstances, attending the negotiations is a waste of time because the U.S. prevents reaching any suitable agreement,” Tasnim reported.

Earlier Tuesday, Trump told CNBC he initially resisted extending the ceasefire, saying, “I don’t want to do that,” when asked if more time should be given for diplomacy.

U.S. Maintains Blockade While Awaiting Iranian Proposal

Trump later said the decision to extend the ceasefire came at the request of Pakistani leaders, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able,” Trump said, emphasizing that U.S. forces would stay prepared for escalation.

Strait of Hormuz Remains Central Flashpoint

A major sticking point remains the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route that Iran effectively closed at the start of the war.

Trump said the ceasefire agreement was contingent on the strait being fully reopened. However, shipping traffic has remained limited, and tensions escalated after the first round of peace talks failed.

In response, Trump ordered a U.S. Navy blockade of Iranian ports near the strategic waterway, further intensifying pressure on Tehran.

Rising Tensions Despite Temporary Pause in Fighting

Iranian officials have accused the United States of violating commitments under a proposed 10-point ceasefire framework introduced at the start of the truce.

With negotiations stalled and military forces on standby, the ceasefire extension underscores the fragile and uncertain path toward a broader resolution of the conflict.
